2014 Mathematics Game | 100th Day of School
Speak at Twitter Math Camp 2014

2014 MATHEMATICS GAME

http://mathforum.org/yeargames/

The Math Forum's Year Game puzzle has returned for an
eighteenth year!

Come challenge your students to write expressions for each of
the counting numbers 1 through 100 using

- the digits in 2014
- standard operations
- grouping symbols

Now taking place: math education conversation of the day

"There comes my problem. My function is long enough that even
MATLAB cannot display it. Do you have a suggestion for me to do
the optimization?"

- Dahnial, posted to the comp.soft-sys.matlab discussion

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL

http://mathforum.org/t2t/faq/faq.100.html

In the coming weeks, many students will be attending school for
the 100th day this school year.

The 100th Day can be a lot of fun -- and a teachable moment!
Counting up to 100 for the 100th day of school gives teachers
many special opportunities to investigate place value.

The discussions and links to Web resources found in the FAQ
provide many ideas to make your 100th Day a memorable
experience for your students.

Now taking place: math education conversation of the day

"I notice how BIG the clothespin is. I wonder what the force
would be & does it hurt the Earth?"

SPEAK AT TWITTER MATH CAMP 2014

http://twittermathcamp.com/

The free event that has reinvigorated math teachers in St.
Louis and Philadelphia -- and across the Twitterverse -- is now
seeking topics and speakers for its next summer gathering.

A shared, editable document for the presentations at Twitter
Math Camp 2014 (TMC14) is open for your suggestions:

http://bit.ly/TMC14-1

Type in a topic that you want to see, add a "+1" after other
entries that interest you, and suggest speakers on teaching
challenges that already include

- intervention techniques and strategies for students who
struggle in math
- how to create opportunities for authentic proof outside of
the traditional geometry curriculum
- whiteboarding in the math classroom
- formative assessment strategies
- race and diversity: why it matters for teachers and why it
matters for students

Submit your own proposal to speak at TMC14 by Monday,
20 January:

http://bit.ly/TMC14-2

Want to share something short -- between, say, five and
fifteen minutes long? Check back at twittermathcamp.com to
submit it as a "My Favorite" at a later date.

This conference "by teachers, for teachers" is "not about how
to use blogs or Twitter or social media in the classroom. It
isn't how to teach teachers to use social media to connect
with each other. And it isn't centered around technology. It's
really designed for math teachers in the classroom who are
looking to become better, and who use the internets to talk
about it and share resources and get better." For the schedule
from past TMCs, as well as wikis and other resources, check
out the archive:
