SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING INDICATORS 2014

http://nsf.gov/statistics/seind14/

Yesterday, the National Science Board of the National Science
Foundation (NSF) released its biennial "Science and Engineering
Indicators" (SEI). SEI 2014 provides a broad base of
quantitative information on the U.S. and international science
and engineering enterprise.

Chapter 1 of the free report, entitled "Elementary and
Secondary Mathematics and Science Education," details

- student learning in mathematics and science
- student coursetaking in mathematics and science
- teachers of mathematics and science
- instructional technology and digital learning
- transition to higher education

SEI 2014 comes with downloadable presentation slides, appendix
tables, and other supporting resources. An accompanying digest,
which draws attention to trends from across the special report,
includes five charts graphing key observations about U.S. and
global science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
education over time:

Now taking place: math education conversation of the day

"I attended your workshop in Cortland this summer and was
thankful to hear a realistic perspective on the transition to
Common Core. My students and parents are always asking for
extra resources, since we don't have a textbook."

- Erin, posted to the secondary (grades 9-12) discussion group
of the Association of Math Teachers of New York State
