The Department of Middle, Secondary, and Mathematics Education in the College of Education at James Madison University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, open rank position in Mathematics Education beginning Fall 2014.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned doctorate prior to the date of employment with a specialization in mathematics education. In addition, the applicant should possess at least three years of U.S. public school teaching or comparable experience at the K-8 level. Applicants should provide evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarly potential, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the College of Education, mathematics department, and K-12 schools. Priority will be given to candidates with experience linking instruction to classroom assessment. Teaching and supervisory experience in a college/university setting is preferred.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate methods courses in early childhood and elementary mathematics education. Additional responsibilities may include the following: a) teaching graduate-level classroom assessment and inquiry courses for middle and high school teaching candidates of all content areas; b) supervising students in public school settings; and c) advising undergraduate and graduate students in the mathematics education program. The successful applicant will also be expected to be productive in appropriate professional, service, scholarly, and collaborative activities.
