Missile with exhaust animation

I am trying to develop a simple missile animation in MATLAB. I
currently have two seperate objects, one for the missile and one for the
exhaust. I did this so I could simulate separate colormaps for each,
since the missile should look different than the exhaust. This caused
another problem, however. Once the missile and exhaust start to rotate,
they rotate about their own centers, creating the amusing situation of
having the exhaust flying alongside the missile. I've tried using
different origins, positioning the axes differently since I used
different axes for each object and I tried changing the viewing angle
rather than rotating. All of these attempts made it worse rather than
better.

What do I need to do to get the exhaust to stay behind the missile?
Thanks in advance for any assitance you may provide.
