Announcement: Getting to know CMP / Michigan St. University

********************************** Sent at the request of Betty Phillips. ********************************** Michigan State University is pleased to announce the 19th Annual Getting to Know CMP and CMP Leadership Workshops on June 23-27, 2014.
The focus for both workshops is CMP3, but the workshops are also relevant for CMP2 users.
Getting to Know CMP Workshop
During the week, you will join a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade-level group for an in-depth discussion on:
. The mathematics and pedagogy for your grade . The development the mathematical understanding for your grade and how it is connected across the grades . How the Mathematical Practices in CMP3 enhances learning . The correlations between CMP3 and CCSSM . Implementation, management, differentiated learning, and grading strategies . Special features of CMP3 and support material, including the DASH
In addition, you will:
. Experience and discuss the pedagogical model for teaching CMP . Participate in a CMP Carnival using CMP games.
CMP Leadership Workshop
During the week, you will join other CMP teacher leaders, coaches, and administrators for an in-depth discussion on:
. Strategies for a successful implementation of CMP3 and the CCSSM . Coaching strategies for helping teachers develop students' understanding of key mathematical ideas . The development of the mathematics embedded in the curriculum and the connections across units and grades . The teaching model for CMP and how its role in developing student understanding . The varying needs of teachers new to CMP and strategies for meeting these needs . Strategies to help teachers plan, teach, assess, and reflect more effectively on their teaching practice . Models for professional development and ways to apply this knowledge to design and reflect on district/institutional models . Current research and theory relevant to CMP . How the Mathematical Practices in CMP3 enhances learning
In addition, you will:
. Participate in a CMP Carnival using CMP games.
