this is akin to Fermat's "reconstrcution
of Eucclid's porism, which I don't know, how
to access, online, any more, but
for numbertheory, instead of geometry

to begin with, we will use an odd base of numbering,
since that will break the awful crutch
of the "parity of digit-endings in any even base
