For some time now there has been some off-topic discussion on the math-teach list, and some posts that were inappropriate, as they were more directed towards other list members rather than discussing teaching mathematics including the NCTM standards. As the temporary moderator (filling in for Richard) I am doing the best that I can and apologize for any breach or inconsistencies in the direction that this list has gone. That being said, let?s get things back on track.

As a reminder these are our guidelines:
**
The focus of the list is discussion and sharing knowledge about teaching mathematics and the NCTM standards. All posts to the list should have this as their underlying purpose.

Courteous and professional discourse is expected in all posts. Disparaging comments directed at another list member, even if somewhat provoked, are unacceptable.

Promoting illegal activities (eg breaching copyright or patents) is unacceptable.
**
If a list member breaches any of the guidelines, I will let them know my concerns in a private post. Persistent or flagrant breaches of the guidelines could result in the member being removed from the membership list.

We certainly don't want to discourage active debate on this list. But list members have joined the list to improve the teaching of mathematics, and there is benefit in having clear guidelines so as to minimize the number of posts that detract from this goal.

If anyone has any concerns about the above guidelines, please share them with me privately.

Thank you,
- --Tracey Perzan
