Letter to the editor

7:13 p.m. EDT, June 26, 2014

Michael Sharpe's mother, Thelma Dickerson, was not a Hartford school board member in 1998 as implied in the editorial "Charter School Operator CEO Had to Go" [June 22, courantopinion.com]. She was at that time a former member of a board that had been dissolved the previous year by an unprecedented act of the Connecticut General Assembly, the result of mismanagement on the part of board members, including Dickerson.

During her tenure on the board, Dickerson used her position to advance the charter school now known as Jumoke Academy. She helped bring the Hartford Public Schools into disrepute, creating new opportunities for education industry profiteers.

Stephen Fournier, Hartford
The writer was a member of the Hartford Board of Education, 199
