The Benjamin Banneker Association, Inc. (BBA) is a non-profit organization of individuals and groups concerned about the mathematics education of ALL children - specifically African-American children. Founded in 1986, the organization initially provided a forum for mathematics educators, mathematicians, and other interested people to discuss the teaching and learning of mathematics for African-American children. For the past 30 years, BBA has remained deeply committed to finding solutions to the problems that must be solved for African-American children to reach parity in opportunities to study and achieve in mathematics. Membership is open to all who have a profound interest in the mathematics education of African-American children.
BBA is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and is led by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. We are currently looking for individuals to volunteer with our organization. Membership and volunteering is open to anyone, and we would like to extend a special invitation to undergraduate / graduate students, K-12 educators, university faculty / staff for assistance in the following areas:
· Community Outreach · Development (e.g. Teacher professional development, lesson / activity design) · Administrative Work · Social Media · Education Journal Contributors (e.g. writing, editing) · Conference and Program Planning
