problem of the week middle school

Ellen Terry Gloria Clayton Deborah Porter We completed the ice cream sales problem, and believe the problem to be correct. If not don't tell!!!! It was a computer error.
How did we get it? We read the problem through and sorted our facts and agreed on a solution.
How would you use this problem in the classroom? We would use it to foster communication about competition among businesses.
How would you change this problem if you were going to use it? We would take their questions? Define words such as distribution, revenue and competitor.
How does this problem fit into your curricular focus? It addresses Math Standands # 6 - problem solving and reasoning # 7 - applications and connentions # 8 - mathematical communications # 9 - use of tools and technology
How can we prepare our students to be successful problem solvers? Basing our instruction on lots and lots of experiences, where students can make connections, communicate with each other, have students complete more written explanations on problem solving, identifying
