Thanks to William P. Berlinghoff (wpberlin@COLBY.EDU) for posting the outline for MATH Connections II (10th Grade) of the Hartford Alliance Project (CBIA Education Foundation).
I teach at San Lorenzo High School, in San Lorenzo, California. We are currently using the UC Davis "Change From Within" materials to replace traditional Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. While we are generally happy with the changes this curriculum has helped us make (particularly in terms of cooperative learning, use of manipulatives to teach algebra (at all levels), portfolio and other alternative assessments, and use of graphing calculators), we are always looking for alternatives. I would be very interested to learn more about this project, especially in the areas I mentioned above. Also: is there some way to examine a sample lesson or unit (via e-mail or otherwise)? What are the goals of the project (for teachers as well as for students)? What technology is embedded? Are groups an integral or optional instructional strategy? What does assessment look like? Is writing structured in?
Thanks! Carlos Cabana, San Lorenzo, CA
