The MAA-NCTM Task Force on competitions would like to hear from recipientsin this network with regard to two matters. We are discussing the possible development of a database of public and secure problems for use by teachers and students in preparing for competitions and for the competitions themselves. We especially invite teachers, both college and pre-college, who would use such a service. Ideas for keeping problems secure...timing, use of snailmail vs. email, types of problems, level of difficulty, problems for indivdual vs. for a team of students are all things to be resolved. We are also concerned about the participation of females and minority students in competitions. If you have been successful at attracting members of either group to participate, we'd like to hear from you. Members of the Task Force are Curt Boddie, Ben Fusaro, Susan Gardenhire, Pat Hopfensberger, Don Kreider, Carole Lacampaygne, Jack Price, Harold Reiter, Joanna Schot, Peter Shor, Glen Smith, and Tom Tucker.
