You could give thought to Lee Dembart's profile on Paul Erdos for the Los
Angeles Times, reproduced in "The World Treasury of Physics, Astronomy and
Mathematics", edited by Timothy Ferris, QC71W67 1991.

"the university [St.Louis] routinely asked for his [Paul Erdos] Social
Security number so they could pay him. He couldn't remember it."
