Trig Tables

I am student teaching in a district that teaches how to use trig
tables. With the standards based education push they have included
this as one of thier district "Benchmarks" or standards. I am looking
for some modern application of trigonometric tables or some fun ways
to present this topic. I am also looking for the answer to this
question I hear from my students: "Why can't we just use our
calculators."

Thanks for your help,
Jason
