At our high school we teach an integrated math sequence which at times is very algorthmic. They introduce matrices by showing transformations but very quickly without much background show how to solve 3 by 3 equations with them by simply A inverse B on the calculator. I am not sure if this is appropriate. I guess it is a method but I don't think it sticks with them much.
