[mathlearn] Trig equations
Posted:
Feb 6, 2001 9:38 AM

Opinions, please, on solving trig equations.
Example, Solve sin 4x = sqrt(3)/2 in [0, 2pi]
I teach this traditionally, but if a student asked me why she can't just solve this using her graphics calculator, I would have to mumble things about patterns, elegance, understanding, etc.
How would you answer such a question?
Cheers
