Hello,

Our department is in the midst of a review of our mathematics program
(major courses and service courses). Simpson College is a small (1700
students) liberal arts college. We looked at the catalogs of other liberal
arts colleges in Iowa and found that only 2 out of 16 of those colleges
required ODEs for the mathematics major. (We are one of those 2 schools.)

Should ODEs be required for mathematics majors (non-engineering students)?
Why or why not? What post-calculus, sophomore courses should be required
for majors (if any)?

Thanks,

Murphy
