I no longer subscribe to the middle school journal, but I'll try to track down a copy here. I recently read a paper by Judy Roitman of this very list, also a critique of the Standards, which I found very interesting. It (along with a critique by Prof. Wu at Berkeley) was the topic of a discussion by our Mathematics Initiative here at EDC.
(Judy, I don't know if there are publication plans in the works, but there should be.)
She makes solid critiques of specific pieces of the Standards, and explains why she still comes down on the side of Standards-based reform. An excellent read, indeed. Maybe if you ask nicely she'll let you read a copy too.
