This tests my reasoning ability too early in the morning but, nevertheless, I'll be foolish and put the (metaphorical) pen to paper. If one has a unit "something" which is already segmented into five segments of which I wish to act on three. Taking these three segments I wish to find five-twelfths (goodness only knows why) of them. I guess that I would further mark each of the three segments separating them into four parts giving twelve in all. Now for the tricky bit: I would need to further mark five of these twelfths of three-fifths in order to get a solution. Upon reflecting upon the unit something I would (should?) see that my five-twelfths of three-fifths is one-quarter of the unit I had to begin with. Feeling confused? Regards (rather sheepishly) K.
