What a beautiful explanation of fractions! I applaud you. I don't ever teach
at this level, so I probably won't use it but I am saving it anyway. I do
something similar when teach the addition of abstract fractions in algebra.
In that case, I assume the students already know what you teach them and I
do a detailed comparison of the abstract and concrete running side by side.
