I am teaching an Algebra II class to Juniors and Seniors. This class contains mostly students who will go to a junior college, community college or major in a non math field. We have a different class for Juniors with better skills in math. My question concerns the learning of imaginary and complex numbers. We have spent the first semester reviewing linear equations, solving equations, and seeing the relationsip between slope and real life examples (velcity, density, etc) Second sememster we will look at quadratic equations. I question spending time on imaginary and complex numbers. The students will have a difficult time seeing the application. Any ideas.
