Mathematics Education
Position Announcement

The Mathematics Department at Illinois State University is seeking
applications for one tenure track position in Mathematics Education
beginning August, 1996.

Qualifications. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics
Education or another comparable degree by August 1996. Candidates should
have the ability to teach a wide range of Mathematics Education courses,
including content and methods courses for middle school and secondary
teachers; an active research program in Mathematics Education; a strong
commitment to teacher education and to quality teaching at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels; and some K-12 teaching experience.

Responsibilities. Duties include teaching, research, and service.
Refereed research publications, quality teaching, and professional
involvement are required for tenure.

Rank and Salary. Rank is at the Assistant or Associate Professor level,
depending on qualifications and experience. Salary is competitive.

Department and Programs. The Department of Mathematics is housed in the
College of Arts and Sciences. It offers Bachelor's and Master's programs in
Mathematics and Mathematics Education, and a Ph.D. program in Mathematics
Education. The Department teaches all content and methods courses in
Mathematics Education for majors in elementary, middle school, special, and
secondary education. The Master's program offers specializations in
Mathematics Education both at the K-8 and secondary (7-12) levels, and the
Ph.D. program offers specializations at the K-9, K-12, and 7-12 levels.
The Department has about 240 majors and the equivalent of 44 full-time
positions, including fourteen in Mathematics Education.

The University and Community. Illinois State University is a
state-supported multi-purpose institution with some 20,000 students located
in Bloomington-Normal in central Illinois. Bloomington-Normal is a
fast-growing community of nearly 100,000 located 130 miles southwest of
Chicago.
