Rather than lowering teacher's incomes, all workers should be allowed to earn
a living wage. Two wrongs never made a right. Expanding the low wage job
sector to the teaching profession would do little, I think, to improve the
abysmal educational levels in this country or improve the overall economy
(which is 2/3 consumer driven). So why do it? Just because, over the last
15 years, the "real" wages of the majority of people (accounting for
inflation) have declined is no reason to say, hey let's cut teacher's
salaries, which would merely have the effect of "spreading" this ever
expanding economic "disease" of low wages further into our economy.
