I would prefer not to jump to conclusions about single parent families.
Certainly this has an impact on the child's life. However, I would not say
just because single parent families have increased, this is the cause of
lowered student achievement.

The greatest indicator I have ever seen of student success is parent
involvement in the child's education - whether this parent be single or not.
I have yet to see a child fail to reach his/her potential when they have a
parent who attends conferences, works with the child on homework, and puts
emphasis on education.
