Would someone please give me a source for this book> Is CLass Ac available through NCTM? Also, I was using a group lesson with patern tiles with grade 7 stusent on percents ( had just found them in a closet) and THEY madr the connections betwee fractions and the circle graphs we had donemonths ago and finally "understoood" so much about fractions. One last bit of info the addenda series is full of making connections from th emanipulatives ( some of which are paper and pencil and other standard items like graph paper, etc., and the the true understanding, whih DOES reflect in thier writing about math comes thorugh lud adn clear. It does NOT seem to me to discount scores on sandrdized tests, but if this kind of math allows the student to make the connection, wither within math or with other discilenes, and brigns about understanding, tather than rote meoriztions, it does work. One last bit a standard set of checkers foe wonders for teaching integers and then THEY formulate the rules, which now they have fomrulated on theri own and generalized from.
