I heartily second the call for seriousness and focus of attention. There
are entirely too many posts to this list that HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO
RELEVANCE TO ME PERSONALLY!!! How dare people clutter up my invaluable
time with their own petty concerns? Do these inconsiderate posters
realize how incredibly difficult and time-consuming it is to skip over,
skim, or delete an irrelevant message? Frankly, I'm contemplating making
a request: let's change this list to nctm-l.mike.goldenberg and restrict
discussion solely to matters either about me or that pertain to areas of
my interest. I realize that some of you may consider such a shift
insufficiently focused; after all, I'm well known to have eclectic
pursuits. Perhaps this problem can be circumvented by having a series of
sub-lists: e.g., nctm-l.mike.goldenberg.family, nctm-l.mike.goldenberg.pets,
nctm-l.mike.goldenberg.dissertation. . . the possibilities are endless!
For those of you who have difficulty with this plan (though I can't
imagine why anyone would object to such an obviously wise course of
action), perhaps you can sponsor your own lists which focus on precisely
those things that rock YOUR world.
[Although I would hope it superfluous to do so, I point out that the
above paragraphs are intended as satire. However, given the unpredictable
nature of written communication. . . .]
