I've been asked to pass on the following query.

>Date: Fri, 13 Oct 1995 05:58:08 -0700
>From: Henry Alder <alder@math.ucdavis.edu>
>To: mathed@math.sunysb.edu
>Subject: Mathland
>Our local schoolboard is considering the adoption of Mathland
>for the K-6 mathematics curriculum upon the recommendations of
>a committee of teachers in our district. No action has as yet been
>taken on this recommendation. It has, however, created a great
>deal of reaction, both pro and con in the local press. Yesterday's
>paper had all its letters to the editor devoted to thsi subject,
>including a letter from a prominent memebr of the school board
>(opposed), a member of our department of mathematics (opposed),
>and others. The opinions were 3 to 1 against the adoption of Mathland.
>I have reviewed the materials myself and come to an opinion, but I
>feel that in adoption of a text it is best to get opinions from
>those who have used the text. Is there anybody in this discussion
>group who has either used Mathland or knows of someone who has. I
>would be very much interested in the opinion of sucha person on
>the suitability of Mathland for adoption for K-6.
