NCTM has never pretend nor issued statements that indicated that the standards were perfect or that they are to be abided by as if they were divinely inspired. They have produced an Addendum series that amplifies, clarifies, and operationalizes for the classroom teacher some powerful ideas on how to implement the standards (or just do some darn good teaching.
Some people who criticize the standards are misinformed, ignorant, or have never read them. Some people who criticize the standards are correct about the issues they raise. It is wholesale attacks or taking a quote made in a specific reply (such as the one attributed to Jack Price) and saying it applies to everyone who disagrees that is inappropriate.
