MAPLE: select(has, ...) weirdness

I'm trying to pick apart an expression, and I've stumbled across
something strange:

$ maple
|\^/| Maple V Release 3 (LANDESLIZENZ BADEN-WUERTTEMBERG)
._|\| |/|_. Copyright (c) 1981-1994 by Waterloo Maple Software and the
\ MAPLE / University of Waterloo. All rights reserved. Maple and Maple V
<____ ____> are registered trademarks of Waterloo Maple Software.
| Type ? for help.
# The following returns nothing, which is as it should be
> select(has, a, b);
>

# The following should also, IMHO, return nothing.
> select(has, -a, b);

Is there any workaround, except testing the return value for 1
explicitly?
