Eigenvectors of Mixed Unit Matrices

We are given a covariance matrix A (say 2x2 for simplicity) with mixed units, say
 4 m^2 1 m*Kgm  A =    1 m*Kgm 2 Kgm^2 
Obviously, we can compute the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the matrix A without consideration of the units. However, if you retain the units of each element of A in the eignenvector equation
AX = sX
there is no set of units for the vector X and scalar s that make the eigenvector equation dimensionally consistent.
How can this be reconciled?
