This is an urgent request, from Mr. Guillermo Mendieta.

Mathematics Educators
Education Departments at All Universities
Mathematics Education Gurus
The Entire Mathematics Education Leadership Community

The Newly formed Coalition for Meaningful Teaching, Learning and Assessment
needs your support NOW!

The machinery behind the resurgence of the behaviorist movement is well
organized and connected. A major battle is being fought in The Los Angeles
Unified School District, the 2nd largest in the nation, against the forces
led by The Mathematically Correct Group.

We need letters of support - to get an idea of what we need, go to and click on LAUSD Mathematics Crisis,
and then click on "How you can help."

If you think the traditional curriculum in mathematics and its accompanying
teaching practices has not served most US students,

If you think that it is time to tell uninformed bureaucrats to stop making
policy decisions without consulting those who have to implement those

If you think schools and teachers need more support, not more
pendulum-swing demands or punishments,

If you think there is a difference between a person knowing mathematics and
knowing how to teach mathematics or how to develop appropriate and
effective mathematics curricula at the K-12 level,

If you think that we must stop the pendulum swings in policies based on who
got elected or which group has the right connections,

If you think the use of multiple representations is important to the
teaching and learning of mathematics,

If you think it is time for thoughtful and hard working educators to take a
stand and be heard,

then find out about what is going on in Los Angeles and HELP (10 ways to
help are listed on our website). Go to our website to get an idea of what
we need and click on LAUSD Mathematics
Crisis, and then click on "How you can help." [You need to scroll a little
at the site.]
