Mathematically Thinking or Thinking Mathematically

Upon entering the realm of teaching, I am discovering many who believe
teaching mathematics is about finding numbers, taking square roots,
repeating over and over again the need to "see" how to isolate the
variable, and factor ("the way I showed you"). The language associated
with mathematics is slowly slipping away. The ideas surrounding
mathematics have become vague.
Mathematics is the study of, not the solutions to, problems. The use
of quantities, numbers, and symbols enhances the way in which problems
can be created, analyzed, and solved.

Each answer seems reasonable, however, choice a) Thinking is the skill
with which mathematics develops.
Mathematics, as a thinking (discovery) course, will have a profound
