What's My Line Algebra POW

Wow! What a great problem. We started on it as a class, then got into groups, and most of my students actually became accurate in finding slopes! (I gave them an incentive of extra points for first groups who go it right and could explain how, but I usually do that.) This is one of the first problems that my Freshman Algebra classes have been able to understand and enjoy.Maybe they'll even feel confident enough to enter some answers themselves over time. What other problems can you suggest that would have this impact on them? I'd like to also comment that this forum has been a godsend to me. (We also do the Geometry POW) Each of my students can have his own mentor if the problems are entered on time, and the mentors respond on the same level as the student entry. It's like having lots of other capable teachers in the classroom, one at every computer! (And even in their homes for the small percentage(6) of my students who have internet acess there.) Thank you for being here! Alice Elstien
