In regards to the POW for finding the area of a square for Sept 3. I have made a sketch using The Geometer's Sketchpad that tries to address the answer for non integer solutions. It can be downloaded at www.mccallie.org/myates/pow There are two constraints in the sketch. The first constraint is that the first rectangle maintains an area of 24 square units and the second constraint is that the overall figure stays a square. By sliding two control points, the area of the second rectangle can be made 36 square units. From trying a range of values with both sliders, I get that there are infinite solutions for non-intergers.
