It's because the sun is closer to us in summer than it is in winter! EVERYONE knows that!!
Well at least, it *is* that way in the SH, and that's where all the important people and places are, innit!?

And here's another one.
On midsummer's day, which part of the appropriate hemisphere gets the most sunlight? Taking into account the thinning out due to cos(latitude), OC.
Answer: The Pole! Yes folks, it's true, amazingly! On midsummer day and ====== for a day or two on either side, the pole gets more sunlight than any other latitude does! It's amazing, but true. Do the math yourself.
So if you want to do some one-day farming, at midsummer, you know where to go...
