Even + Even = Even

Do you know how to prove that an even number + an even number = 
an even number?

An even number is a multiple of two. Show that the sum of two 
multiples of two is again a multiple of two:

   if x and y are even numbers, then

   x = 2*p and y = 2*q for some integers p and q.

   Then x + y = 2p + 2q = 2(p+q)

2*(p+q) is a multiple of two as well, so x+y is even.
