Integers in Everyday LifeDate: 01/16/2002 at 22:01:30 From: Stephanie Subject: Math How do we use integers in everyday life? Date: 01/17/2002 at 10:38:31 From: Doctor Ian Subject: Re: Math Hi Stephanie, When you get home, look at today's mail. How many integers do you see on the envelopes? What are they being used for? Do you have any paper money in your pocket? How many integers do you see on the bills? What are they being used for? On your way home, look at the cars that you pass. How many integers do you see on the license plates? What are they being used for? On your first day of school, how did you find your locker? Was an integer involved? What role did it play? The next time you want to make a recipe, see how many integers appear in it. (Don't forget instructions like 'Makes six 4-ounce servings' and 'Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes'.) What are they being used for? Why is there a '29' in your email address? What would you do if you wanted to call your friend on the telephone? How do you know when Spring Break is going to start? How can you tell whether you're going to be late for school? Does this help? - Doctor Ian, The Math Forum http://mathforum.org/dr.math/ |
