A matrix as used in mathematics is a collection of numbers put in
a rectangular arrangement.

For instance:

   1 3 5
   2 3 1
   8 3 1
   9 1 4

is an example of a matrix. To be specific, it is an example
of a 4 by 3 matrix, because it is 4 rows by 3 columns.
