The units digit is the one's place of the number; it is the first 
digit on the right of the number (in this case 0).  

       6100
          ^

The tens digit is the tens place of the number; it is the second digit 
on the right of the number (in this case it also is 0).

       6100
         ^

The hundreds digit is the hundreds place of the number; it is the 
third digit on the right of the number (in this case it is 1).

       6100
        ^

The thousands digit is the thousands place of the number; it is the 
fourth digit on the right of the number (in this case it is 6).

       6100
       ^
