Hello there!
Well, when you do this problem, you can actually forget all about what it
means to be a yard. You see, if anyone gives you the dimensions of a room,
in ANY units, you can just multiply the two dimensions together to get the
area of the room in square units.
So since the room is 20 yards by 30 yards, the area of the room is 20x30
square yards, and since 20x30 = 600, the area of the room is 600 square yards.
That's how much carpet it would take.
Here's a question for you: if a room is 25 miles by 40 miles, what is the
area of the room in square miles?
What's the area of a football field?
