Evaluating Long-Term Student Effects and Teacher Inservice Needs for Dissemination of the Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP)

|Abstract of a report to the NSF by Norman Webb. The IMP curriculum integrates the four years of mathematics traditionally presented as separate courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and precalculus, and exposes students to concepts derived from probability and statistics. Webb and colleagues conducted focus studies on student achievement in statistics and other topics emphasized in the curriculum. In three studies, after controlling for differences in mathematics achievement prior to entering high school, the IMP students significantly outperformed their counterparts from the traditional curriculum.|
