Elementary: Geometry
In grades 3-5, elementary students identify and classify
two- and three-dimensional shapes and develop definitions of
classes of shapes, explore subdividing, combining, and transforming
them, and learn about congruence and similarity. They also specify
locations and investigate spatial relations using coordinate geometry
and other representational systems, study transformations and
symmetry, and use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric
modeling to solve problems, building objects and creating and
describing mental images of them.
Elementary Problems of the Week that focus on geometric properties
are listed below. They address the NCTM
Geometry
Standard for Grades 3-5.
