    The Federal Reserve Bank has nine billion dollars in its vaults, and on an average day it destroys $20 million in unfit currency. At the Money in Motion exhibit you can explore the theoretical and mathematical realms of interest rates, inflation, and unemployment, or learn the more practical mathematical workings of cash, credit cards, and checks. Museum exhibits have included "Balance and Imbalance," "Comparing Frequencies," "Shadow Fractions," "Scaling Shapes," "Sensing Ratios," "Partner Motion," "Comparing Forms," and "Drawing with Gears."   6. Smithsonian Institution
    An independent trust instrumentality of the United States holding some 140 million artifacts and specimens in its trust for "the increase and diffusion of knowledge," and a center for research dedicated to public education, national service, and scholarship in the arts, sciences, and history. The Smithsonian is composed of 16 museums and galleries, the National Zoo, and numerous research facilities in the United States and abroad. Nine Smithsonian museums are located on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the Capitol; 5 other museums and the Zoo are elsewhere in Washington, D.C., and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the National Museum of the American Indian are in New York City.
