| The 17 wallpaper groups identify the plane symmetry groups and link to background patterns illustrating them. Tiling Definitions define, with examples, the terms fundamental region, isohedral tiling (isohedral and non-isohedral), isogonal tiling, lattice, monohedral tiling, periodic tiling, normal tilings, primitive cell, regular tiling, symmetric tiling, and transitivity class. Tilings from Historical Sources show tilings from Egyptian, Persian, Byzantine, Arabian, Moresque, Indian, Hindu, and Chinese cultures, as appearing in The Grammar of Ornament. Also, links, print references, and a few open questions. | |
