Author:Dana Lee Ling
Description: Dana Lee Ling is a mathematics and science software specialist at the College of Micronesia-FSM. Articles document the College's attempts to increase the success of pre-algebra and algebra students through "conceptual" and technology-based approaches. The Waterloo Maple LiveMath software receives a positive review, and the site includes a set of algebra pages (including examples of polar and spherical coordinates) that use the LiveMath plug-in. Cognitive Approach pages include a series of lesson plans, with sample homework problems, that use concrete examples to explore even and odd numbers, set theory, Pascal's Triangle, the Fibonacci sequence, fractions, rates, probability, algebra, and more. Site also includes comments on typing mathematics in Microsoft Word and graphing in Excel, and a slide presentation about the original Cognitive Approach class.
