Description: Linked essay exploring the transmission of Indian numerals first to the Arabic/Islamic peoples and from them to Europe. The eastern and western parts of the Arabic world (North Africa and Spain) both saw separate developments of Indian numerals with relatively little interaction between the two. Transmission to Europe came into Europe first through Spain. With references and other related web sites.
