Author:Chaim Goodman-Strauss, Dept. of Mathematics, Univ. of Arkansas
Description: A 4-part symmetry unit. Part 1: motion in the plane, isometries, regular patterns, theorems and planar motifs. Part 2: explore planar patterns with the software "kali", paperdolls and orbifolds. Part 3: paper surfaces (Moebius band, Annulus, torus, Klein bottle, projective plane), cutting open an orbifold and subsymmetries. Homework is suggested for each part, and interactive demos using Geometer's Sketchpad are found throughout.

Levels: High School (9-12)
Languages: English
Resource Types: Lesson Plans and Activities, Documents/Sketches/Galleries, Geometer's Sketchpad
Math Topics: Symmetry/Tessellations, Topology
