| Chinook is the World Man-Machine Checkers Champion, a title it earned by competing in human tournaments and defeating the best players in the world. Chinook is the by-product of a research effort started in 1989 into game-playing strategies. The long-term objective of the project is determining the game-theoretic value of checkers.
