|All the mathematicians whose biographies are given in the MacTutor archive exhibited extraordinary mental powers. This article examines a few mathematicians who showed extraordinary powers of memory and calculating, together with a number of people who had no mathematical skills, usually no education, yet were able to display feats of mental arithmetical skills that astounded their contemporaries.|
