| The Cooper Union | |
| Jean Le Mee, Manuel A. Baez, and a team of their Cooper Union students submitted the Millennium Sphere for an international time-capsule competition sponsored by the New York Times Magazine. Watch a Shockwave animation of Ad Quadratum generation that reveals how the first three whole numbers give rise to the five Platonic solids: tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and icosahedron. Project literature, polyhedron models, and an instructional video describing the project now occupy a place among the art treasures of New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Also known as Ariadne's Clew, the ball of thread Ariadne gave Theseus to extricate himself from the labyrinth. | |
